The Romanian Academy published the first papers in 1956, 1957, 1958 in the specialized journals Studii si cercetări de metalurgie (Studies and Researches of Metallurgy) and Revue roumaine de metallurgie, lead by Prof.
The setting up, at the Technical University in Cluj-Napoca, of the first department of specialization in the materials science in Romania and of the first Faculty of Materials Science and Engineering (1990) brought new premises for research and intern and international cooperation in the domain of powders metallurgy.
(ceramic rings for face seals) at Intreprinderea de matrite si piese din fonta, Odorheiul Secuiesc (1985); - the technical line of ceramic insulators for high power diodes and thyristors, at Electroceramica Turda (1985) etc.
Important researches were also carried on at the University of Craiova, at Polytechnic Institute of Bucharest, at Polytechnic Institute of Timisoara (ceramics).
Some of them: sintered magnetic materials, contact materials, heavy alloys for high voltage switches, carbonated materials (electrographitic metal-graphite, bakelite - graphite, hard carbon), and ceramics.

Introduction
Engineering ceramics have high stiffness, excellent thermal stability and relatively low density, but their brittleness impedes their use as structural materials.
This ceramic material and its composites are important for high-temperature engineering applications as structural advanced materials.
