A small amount of ruby approximately 50 milligrams was ground in a mortar into fine powder to look at any change in crystal structure after heat treatments by XRD using the Cu Ka radiation.
The crystal structure was followed by Cu Ka powder X–ray diffractometer and from Table 2 the c/a ratio of hexagonal structure calculated before and after each heat treatment by Rietveld method.
