The Study on Optimum thickness of Thermocouple Used for Measuring the Grinding Temperatures of Brittle Materials Fangyi Youa, Qiulian Daib College of Mechanical Engineering and Automation, Huaqiao University, Xiamen, Fujian, 361021, P.R China a fangyiy@hqu.edu.cn, blisadai@hqu.edu.cn Keywords: Grinding temperature, Brittle Granite, Thermocouple, Thickness Abstract.
However the foils are no easy to form a joint and get the temperature signals especially when grinding brittle materials such as granite, because the foil is too thin and the brittleness of the granite usually makes the joint of thermocouples disconnected.

Based on the application of elliptical vibration cutting method to precision machining of hard and brittle materials and material softening technology through laser heating, a novel composite cutting technique, laser heating and ultrasonic elliptical vibration assisted cutting, is applied to process sintered tungsten carbide.
Ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting (UEVC) method has been proved to be successfully applied to processing of such intractable materials [2] and have achieved much improved cutting performances in all aspects superior to common cutting (CC) and one-dimensional ultrasonic vibration cutting(1D UVC) methods due to intermittency and friction reversal actions in each cycle of vibration [3-5].

The above experimental results show that the size dependence in intrinsic to certain materials, hence accurate understanding and characterization of materials response at small scale is very important in the optimal design of MEMS as well as in evaluating their reliability and performance.
To reduce the difficulties of determining length scale parameters of materials by experiments, gradient elasticity theories of only one additional material constant have been developed.

Values of these parameters are taken from the experiments except that the constitutive relation uses the proposed model, and the strength principle uses the concrete material model which predicts the failure of brittle materials.

One of the first treatments of plastic flow for anisotropic materials was suggested by Hill [1].
Valliappan and his coworkers have presented an elasto-plastic finite element analysis of anisotropic work-hardening materials based on the extension of the Hill’s von Mises yield criterion [2].
PROBLEM DEFINITION AND OPTIMIZATION The typical anisotropic material is composite with different material properties in orthotropic direction.
