Introduction The detection of damage in structures, sometimes within the more general area of structural health monitoring, is nowadays a subject of prime importance in what mechanical, civil and aerospace engineering are concerned.
iii) For each control period (let us say one day for a typical civil engineering structure or one hour for most mechanical equipment), take the minimum DRQ obtained, as such a minimum reveals the most sensitive result.

Direct calculation formulae for critical depth of II type horseshoe tunnel with flat–bottom Fengling Li a , Hui Wen b Department of architecture and civil engineering , Huizhou University, Huizhou, Guangdong, 516007, China ammlflmm@163.com, bwenhui-hzu@163.com Key words: II type horseshoe cross-section with flat–bottom; critical depth; direct calculation formula Abstract: II type horseshoe with flat–bottom evolved from standard II type horseshoe cross-section.
It is commonly applied in the field of hydroelectric engineering.
The formula is simply and the maximum error is less than 0.515% under the general engineering design range (ratio of critical depth and arch radius is located between the 0 - 1.60).
Within the suitable range of the engineering, the absolute maximum relative error of the new formula is 0.515%.
It can satisfy the demand of practical engineering.
