“mou shi zai ren, cheng shi zai tian”, an idiom used by Granny Liu in The Story of the Stone, is translated into “Man propose, Heaven disposes” by Yang Xianyi and Gladys Yang and “Man proposes, God disposes” by David Hawkes.
The Yangs’ version preserves the image of the source text “tian” (Heaven), which conveys the conception of Daoism (Heaven governs nature) as well as a country woman’s belief in feudal China.

Load Transfer Mechanism of Mortise-tenon Joint
In the early 1990’s, Wang Tian discussed the mechanics of mortise-tenon joint using the method of structural mechanics.Since then, many scholars have carried out analysis and experiment research on all aspects of the mortise-tenon joint including the load transfer mechanism, mechanical model, damage characteristics and so on.
Yanhua Yang analyzed the joint stiffness affected by the sizes of the substitute timber, the tenon and the degradation degree caused by the mortise to the post by test.
