The traditional way of vanadium extraction from ores is a hydrometallurgical process consisted of raw materials salt roasting with further leaching.
In the natural vanadium raw materials processing, roasting of the raw material with sodium chloride is widespread.
These factors could be one of the reasons for the low yield of vanadium from raw materials.
The most suitable reagents for roasting this type of vanadium raw materials are additives of sodium chloride and sodium carbonate.

Thus, functional gradient material (FGM) should be a feasible route to introduce Ln2Zr2O7 as oxygen insulation to ZrB2 based materials.
The XRD patterns of the ZrB2/SiC-Sm2Zr2O7 materials were shown in figure 3.
From the results it can be seen that no significant phase transformation was found in the materials.
Minute ZrSiO4 (31.8°) was detected in the materials with high ZrB2/SiC content, which caused by the solid solution of ZrO2 and SiO2 from the row materials.

However, this assumption is valid only for materials where the work-hardening behavior is insensitive to the plastic deformation (i.e. isotropic hardening behavior), but not for materials with anisotropic hardening characteristics.
