From the 1870s onwards, corrosion resisting properties of iron-chromium alloys were known.
However a series of patents for corrosion-resisting iron-chromium and iron-chromium-nickel alloys predate that event.
Krupp Works in Essen, Germany, prepared iron-base alloys including 20% chromium, 8% nickel and filed patents in 1912.
But the development of the alloys we now know as stainless steels began well before those patents.
Conversely, aluminum combines with oxygen and sulfur to form compounds that float on the surface, thereby removing their effect on surface tension from the liquid metal.

Introduction Recent years have seen significant efforts to develop cost reducing technologies for the production of engineering components from titanium alloys [1-3], particularly via the so called ‘near net shape’ forming routes.
While the characteristics of this arc-wire technique have been examined by a number of parties under various names including Shaped Metal Deposition (SMD) [4, 5], Wire and Arc Additive Layer Manufacturing (WAALM) [6] and Robotic TIG Metal wire Deposition (RTMwD) [7], relatively little work has been done in relation to residual stresses resulting from the process, particularly in titanium alloys.

Development of Self-Shielded Flux-Cored Wires for Arc Welding of Low-Alloy Steels V.V.
The thermal effects of thermochemical reactions accompanying the heating of the wire core often overlap because of their simultaneous initiation and development (endothermal processes of destruction and melting and exothermal oxidations and formations of complex compounds).
As the components of flux-cored wire decreasing the start temperatures of the core fusion it is rational to use metal powders based on aluminum and its alloys as well as alkali metals in composition of slag- and gas-forming core components such as carbonates, oxides and fluorides.

The final microstructure of the sintered alloys shows FeCo particles surrounded by silver contours.
Introduction The Fe-Co-Ag system is of particular interest for its potential applications as soft magnetic granular alloys formed by small magnetic grains embedded in a non-magnetic metal matrix.
The properties of these alloys are closely related to the microstructure, therefore a detailed study of the transformations occurring during milling was undertaken considering alloys with several equiatomic concentrations of Fe-Co and different Ag content.
It can be observed that the behavior for these two alloys is different.

Some authors [17,18] studied sulfur dioxide leaching of spent Zn-MnO2 batteries aiming the valuable metals recovery.
However, Zn(NH3)2Cl2 is not found in Fig.1, probably due to overlapping of other compound's spectra.

By utilizing powder metallurgy (PM) one could benefit from available industrialized approaches for composite production and alloying routes.
Summarizing, the aim of both the chemical vapor infiltrated (CVI) Wf/W and the PM Wf/W development is a composite material with superior properties.
