Abstract:The resin flow behavior in vacuum assisted resin infusion molding process (VARI) of foam sandwich materials was studied through visualization flow experiments.
Because VARI process is usually used to produce the large-scale composite structures such as ships, refrigerated containers and bridge deck [6], effect of resin gravity on resin flow behavior can not be neglected[7-8].

It is advantageous that the flexibility of these materials can be controlled by changing the mixing ratios of the organic and inorganic components and that the silanol groups can be incorporated in the structure.

On the other hand, all of these data above indicate that not only the molecular weight increased, make copolyester structure be consistent with the addition ratio, but also the generating of blocky alignment decreased by addition of acetic anhydride.

However, for the large model, except the change of Si-O-Si bond angle, its structure has no other significant changes.
As shown in Fig. 9(a) and (c), it can be summarized from the O-Si-O BAD of 50 Å and 150 Å models that there arises an irreversible change of the structure of the 50 Å model while the structure only slightly changes and resumes finally after the model failures for the 150 Å model.
In future study, we will discuss how porous structure would affect the mechanical property in micro-scale and nano-scale along with structure of diatom.
