Characterization of Coconut Shell Activated Carbon Obtained from By-product of Preparation Process of Bio-oil with Fast Pyrolysis Qing-Ruo Xie1, 2,a, Zhang-Fa Tong1, b, Li-Wen Zheng2, Xiao-Guang Chen1 1School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Guangxi University, Nanning 530004, China 2Depart of Biology and Chemical Engineering, Guangxi University of Technology, Liuzhou 545006, China ahuagong104@163. com, bdean@gxu. edu. cn Keywords: activated carbon(AC);coconut shell(CS); porosity; fast pyrolysis; bio-oil Abstract.
Increasing the pyrolysis temperature from 723 to 823 K increased the release of low-molecular-weight volatiles from the carbon structure.
This formation of an intermediate melt in the char blocked the pores and obstructed the passage of the steam molecules into the pore structure, thereby reducing the carbon burn-off during steam activation of the char.
