The structures of diarylethenes 1a were confirmed by 1H NMR (400 MHz, CDCl3, TMS): δ 2.33 (s, 3H, -CH3), 2.47 (s, 3H, -CH3), 6.87 (s, 1H, thiophene-H), 7.59 (s, 1H, phenanthrene-H ), 7.61 (t, 2H, phenanthrene-H), 7.68 (t, 2H, phenanthrene-H), 7.81–7.83 (d, 2H, phenanthrene-H), 8.74–8.79 (d, 2H, phenanthrene-H), 7.10–7.13 (t, 2H, benzene-H), 7.22–7.24 (d, 1H, benzene-H), 7.07–7.09 (d, 1H, benzene-H).

When we continued to increase the reaction time from 26h to 34h, we could always observe three morphology: some part of the original structure scaffold of lignocellulosic biomass was almost all disrupted, and formed a complex interconnected porous and channels networks, the other part of lignocellulosic biomass were covered by a large number of nicely dispersed, separated microsphere on the surface of the cornstalk matrix, additionally, the amount of scattered spheres increased as the reaction time increased, but, the size of spheres were about 4-5 μm range in diameter.
