Material mechanical tests of timbers which used for structure were also conducted to examine the strength.
(See Fig.9) The damping factor was calculated from the waveform of free vibration test; 2.5% and 2.1% in X and Y direction, respectively.
There have been no reports on regarding to material properties of local wood in Nias.
Therefore, material tests of the wood were conducted to obtain fundamental mechanical properties of those wooden members used for the traditional wooden houses in South Nias.
The fundamental mechanical properties of Nias timbers were obtained in present study.

Surface passivation is an important for III-V materials to remove surface state for achieving optical and electrical properties.
In 1987, Sandroff reported a sulfide surface passivation of GaAs to improve the performance of electronic properties [1].
However, after the passivation by (NH4)2S solution, the thick S layers can be formed, and affect the luminescence property.
Meanwhile, Al2O3 film has good mechanical properties, which can be more effective protection devices.
The Optical properties and surface morphology of the treatments on InP is investigated by PL, XPS and AFM measurement.

In this paper, the relevant risk factors of the analysed weather condition were determined based on our expert judgements and the available insurance databases.
The factors of exposure are the natural hazards, e.g. extreme weather events (characteristics: frequency, intensity, location, extent).
The exposure to windstorms, the effects of wind on the building envelope depend on the height, the shape and the dynamic properties of the façade and roof structure as well as its location, the height variation of the wind determined from the terrain roughness and orography.
The wind-related sensitivity is defined as what extent, the wind pressure affects the building.
Since the date of construction determines more factors it was weighed by the highest value and the sensitivity values were identified on a three-grade scale.

The validity of the present method for the microscopic sliding and stick-slip instability is examined under various dynamic characteristics of the system, such as contact load, elastic stiffness, driving velocity and frictional properties.
Especially, wear is accelerated, and acoustic characteristic and machine life are also adversely affected by stick-slip vibration.
For the mechanical meanings and/or determination of parameters, refer to Hashiguchi and Ozaki [4].
Above-mentioned results demonstrate that the fundamental properties of the frictional sliding, including the rate- and state-dependency, could be described pertinently by the present finite element method.
The validity of the present method for the microscopic sliding and stick-slip instability is examined under various dynamic characteristics of the system, such as contact load, elastic stiffness, forced velocity and frictional properties.

The measured fatigue crack growth lives of structural steels are often affected by specimen thickness.
However, most of the studies were carried out under constant amplitude loading, and they did not consider the statistical properties of fatigue crack growth resistance and the effect of specimen thickness on the parameters of probability distribution for crack growth life.
It is, however, very difficult to determine separately these two random variables from the observed crack growth data even under the test for the condition of constant stress intensity factor range [12].
Since the present study is to investigate the effect of specimen thickness on inhomogeneity of fatigue crack growth resistance, it seems unnecessary to use the stochastic model considering the probabilistic properties of the parameters.
Using these properties, the random process S(x) is simulated.

Good combination of density and mechanical properties has made them attractive due to requirement to improve fuel economy.
Since usage of Mg is limited mostly by corrosion properties and creep resistance, many studies in last decade have been concentrating on these issues [1].
Formation of Mg17Al12 phase decreases creep resistance as it quickly loses its properties at elevated temperature [3].
Ca and Sr in certain quantities also improve the mechanical properties by refinement of solid solution grain size, according to Hall-Petch equation [5].
It depends on several factors like chemical composition, microstructure, amount of impurities and manufacturing process.

Connections provided by these types of connectors are semi-rigid connections, which have affect to the efficiency of composite cross-section.
This type of composite member has several advantages, as a lower construction weight and positive thermal insulation and acoustic properties.
Therefore, Light-weight concrete Liapor disposes of positive mechanical and physical building properties.
Material properties of the concrete were specified as nonlinear material created by diagram shown in Fig. 3.
Material properties of the timber were created as linear orthotropic material with an elastic modules Ex = 11.6 GPa, Ey = 0.289 GPa, Ez = 0.789 GPa.

It has excellent thermal, chemical and mechanical properties; and wide pH tolerance which gives an advantage to PSF in many industrial applications [6].
There is also evidence that the nano-sized clay increase the gas diffusion properties of the membrane [9].
The effects of clay loading on the morphology and thermal properties of the MMM were investigated in detail.

If the Si content of Al-Si series alloy exceeds 6%, the modification for acicular eutectic silicon is necessary to improve mechanical properties of the alloy.
Although contents of modifier and grain refiner are the most important factor that affects the treatment results, the melt temperature, holding time and cooling rate also influence the results.
Obviously, such microstructures will degenerate the macro mechanical properties of the alloy.

Because of these excellent tribological properties, DLC films are used as protective coatings on microelectronic devices, optical devices, and magnetic storage media [2].
Surface morphology is another important factor that can greatly affect tribological properties of DLC films.
