Nanostructured coatings for multifunctional applications were deposited by means of magnetron sputtering by adjusting the experimental parameters in order to tailor the chemistry, the microstructure and the morphology of the coatings.
Regarding the microstructure of the coatings, a dense featureless structure shown in Fig. 5 was observed by FESEM.

The morphology of the untreated wood shows an incompact structure with gray color, while those generated from the treated samples show a more condensed structure with black color, especially the char residue generated from the CuSnO3–treated sample, where can be seen that CuSnO3 adheres on the surface.

The Structure of the films is analyzed by the scanning electron microscope (SEM), the composition of the films is measured by the Energy Dispersive Analysis of X-rays (EDAX).

In the present work we apply PALS to the assessment of the structure of different samples of CDs.
