The adsorption strength referring to the 1/n value is less than 1 in which the greater heterogeneity is expected for a smaller 1/n value [12].
The adsorption process is also favorable by having n (1.487) larger than 1.

Compared with the control fiber, the activation surface functional groups including C-O-C (1265cm−1), C=O (1724cm−1) are increased slightly on the fiber surface by the effect of helium plasma treatment, while the bands corresponding to stretching vibration of Si-H (2342cm−1), Si-O-Si (1125cm−1) and Si-CH3 (748cm−1) are enhanced considerably after the pure nano-SiO2 sol-gel coating.
In the case of HNSUHMWPE, the Si-O-Si absorption peak near 1124 cm−1 was enhanced and widened obviously in contrast to the UHMWPE filaments with helium plasma treatment (HUHMWPE), in addition to the slight increase in C=O band at 1724cm−1.
