The study revealed that inadequate storage facilities, poor planting materials and lack of government assistance, among others, are major bottlenecks in oil palm production in Edo State.
The oil palm is a source of food and raw materials for several industries which lie within the scope of domestic manufacturing including soaps and detergents, bakery and confectionary, fats and margarine.
From the multiple response gathered, it showed that inadequate finance, poor storage facilities, high labour cost, high cost of processing equipments, poor planting materials, lack of extension workers and poor transportation were the major constraints faced by the farmers.
The study showed that inadequate storage facilities, lack of Government assistance, lack of extension officers, high cost of transportation, poor planting materials and use of labour intensive technologies are major constraints in oil palm production in the study area.
