As a common mineral admixture of concrete, silica fume contains a large number of reactive SiO2 and gives a low permittivity and permeability (εr=2.7, µr=1.0).
Compared with unhydrated cement particles, silica fume owns much smaller particle size, so that they can fill into small spaces between cement grains to give a much more compacted matrix.
