Research on Settlement of Road on very soft Soil Foundation YAN Shu-wang, ZHANG Li-li and SUN Li-qiang School of Civil Engineering Tianjin University Tianjin, China yanshuwang@tju.edu.cn Keywords:very soft soil, foundation, road, settlement, wavy failure Abstract.
Engineering practice has shown that serious problems will arise to the road after a short term of operation, even the foundation of the road has been deliberately treated.
Engineering practice indicates that this part of settlement can not be ignored, especially for the roads constructed on very soft soil foundation.

Introduction Well-point dewatering not only lower the groundwater level of construction site, drain water-containing soil, decrease water content, but also can improve its engineering properties and enhance the soil shear strength.
Shanghai existing engineering experience shows that the strength of clayey soil with thin sand layer inclusion or interbedded sandy soil can be enhanced by 30%, one month after well-point dewatering.
Effect of engineering dewatering on soil behavior parameters is not only limited to the increase of undrained shear strength, elastic modulus of soil also will change.
