We look at traditional cemented carbide material tools, polycrystalline diamond (PCD) tools, diamond-like carbon (DLC) coated tools and ceramic tools.
A new tool material, TiB2 ceramics, was also tested.
Figure 2 shows the experimental results when using a TiB2 ceramic drill bit developed with the objective of improving drill bit life and reducing drill bit material costs.
The newly developed ceramic drill provided tool life approximately equal to that of cemented carbide.
