Optimization of crystallization of magnesium ammonium phosphate: initial phosphate concentration, pH and reactants molar ratio

Therefore, the objective of this paper is to investigate the influence of initial phosphate concentration and pH on reactants molar ratio in the process of MAP crystallization to supply valuable reference for engineering application.
Conclusions 1) The optimum reactants molar ratio of n(N):n(Mg):n(P) were 90:25:1, 4:1.6:1 and 3:1.4:1 when pH value was 9.5 with the initial phosphate concentration 8mg/L, 50mg/L and 100mg/L,respectively. 2) The phosphate removal increased with improving the initial phosphate concentration or pH value, even the reactants molar ratio of n(N):n(P) or n(Mg):n(P) was lower than the optimum values. 3) The best crystal MAP was produced with initial phosphate concentration 50mg/l and pH 9.0, while the phosphate removal efficiency was 97.6%. 4) A method of balancing the high phosphate removal efficiency and the good crystal form is important to be explored for engineering application in the future.
