The stiffness of rotor system is generally nonlinear due to the application of new materials with nonlinear physical characteristic and the increase of rotating speed and load, such as the rotor system made of alloy material, composite material and common material under high temperature, whose relation of stress and strain is nonlinear function.
Both ends of rotor are supported by journal bearings with symmetrical structures.

The shortcoming of the classical model lies in the neglect of surface energy or surface stress, which plays a key role in adsorption-induced swelling or desorption-induced shrinkage of porous materials.

Taking steel-plastic composite reinforced band (CAT) and gravelly soil as the test materials, the pullout tests of reinforced band in gravelly soil with different water contents have been carried out by the laminated shear test instrument.
The reinforced materials in the above research are mostly geo-grid or soil fabric and the filling materials are sand or clay, in which little research was made on reinforced band, and the water content was seldom considered as the factor on the pulling characteristics of reinforced soil.
The earth is calculated as below--pulling friction factor of geosynthetics materials: (2) Where p is the normal pressure; is the pulling friction strength corresponding to p.

Mechanical fasteners are commonly employed to facilitate joints in composite materials but there are disadvantages including fretting and fibre discontinuity e.g. [2] and with increased parts count, increased weight.
Pultruded materials are non-homogeneous in the through thickness direction, as the material is made up from an internal layer of unidirectional (UD) with a Chopped Strand Mat (CSM) layer on the outside surfaces.
The maximum signal will occur in the adhesive layer (the lightest shades in the TSA plots in Figure 2) due to the materials thermoelastic response.

For example, critical slip surface must be assumed for limit equilibrium method, upper and lower limit analysis and variational methods and they are not applied to non-homogeneous materials, especially for strength-uneven works of rock accumulation body.

Preface The presented special issue is dedicated to the recent achievements in materials science and materials processing technologies used in modern mechanical engineering.
Here are investigated the lubrication features in the journal-bearing systems and induction-treated linear guides in the transmission elements, fatigue crack propagation in aluminium alloy under four-point bending and mechanism of multi-particle erosion of the iron target.
The next chapter contains articles on materials and technologies used in opto- and microelectronics.
