Introduction
With growth in the use of composites in civil aircraft, the ability to produce high performance joints between metallic and composite components is becoming of increasing importance in the aerospace industry.
A promising approach for hybrid metal-composite joints is to engineer locking features on to the metal part that are integrated into the composite laminate to increase shear load transfer, via both better adhesion and mechanical ‘fit’, through the thickness of the composite.
