Introduction Acoustic emission (AE) is a naturally-occurring phenomenon in materials, in which the rapid release of energy from localized damage such as cracking generates elastic stress waves within the materials.

Compared with common materials, SMAs have two unique properties of shape memory effect and superelasticity, which will be valuable when applied to control the responses of civil structures.
On the other hand, considering current level of material processing technology, the qualities of domestic made SMAs are still not good enough, and large difference maybe exist among different batches of materials.
The calculation process is simplified by taking the advantages of not considering the physical characters of materials and no need to build the precise mathematical model.

It has been reported that such cracking is caused by hydrogen embrittlement in the degraded structural materials [3,4].
Table 1 Chemical compositions of materials used [mass%]Results and Discussion The crack susceptibility in y-groove weld cracking test and repair welding test was estimated by crosssectional observation after these tests.
Hydrogen distribution in the materials was calculated with using the diffusion equation based on activity, as demonstrated in following equation
