In May 2007, the northern part of the South China Sea successfully drilled gas hydrate samples "combustible ice", thus becoming the following 4 hydrate physical samples collected through the national R & D program in the United States, Japan, India, marking China the level of natural gas hydrate research into the most advanced in the world. 2004 by the China Geological Survey Bureau, responsible for the organization to carry out resource Vision survey and drilling technology research and development, the preparation of a permafrost area gas hydrate stability zone maps delineated the favorable zones. 
"Combustible ice" drilling requires the most advanced technology cooperation.
