Developments in the area of surface engineering is aimed at increasing the durability of the tools while maintaining their mechanical properties, dimensional tolerance and the surface finish of the product.
The newly formed layer on the CrN sample surface comes from the ceramic ball (made from Si3N4), as seen in Fig.3.
The CoF against the ceramic ball (made from Si3N4) for the thin films ranges from 0.46 for the CrN/Cr thin film to 0.31 for the CrN thin film (Table 3).
