For engineering change, the opportunities offered by the use of new materials are important, and a possibility of integrating mechatronic components and systems into the existing products arises.
Smart items (electronics, software, materials) integrated into the existing product offer new features and capabilities to the user.
A very important point to engineering change is to apply a new design of materials and mechatronic systems to forming the base for increasing the effectiveness of this phenomena.

Therefore, the present model is not limited to the described building materials but can also be used for predicting the effective thermal conductivity of any type of complex structured building materials.
They observed that the results for wet materials were closer to the experimental data as compared to those for dry materials.
More validation of other building materials is needed.
