Experimental The shaft material was AISI 1030 steel.
Two machined sides of same material were fixed together by a jig plate with screws to hold it aligned.
A replacement block was fabricated, using the same material having exactly the same dimensions and shape with the removed portion.
The replacement block was then joined with the two pieces of the shaft by TIG welding (without filling material) to create one uniform material structure with a crack depth of 40% of the diameter.

The need to improve the surface properties of materials, has led to the development of parts coated with hard materials deposited on substrates.
Introduction Advances in coatings, to study mono or multilayer materials and the advancement in the use of these techniques in fields as diverse as microelectronics or packaging, require the use of another test, other than traction, for to be able to characterize the mechanical properties of said coatings and of the component itself.
What has allowed, to have an alternative methodology for the determination of mechanical properties in materials, without the need for experimental tests.
Materials and Methods With the commercial software ABAQUS / CAE [3], [4] the models are generated in axisymmetric projection of the indenter-substrate assembly in order to simulate the indentation of the substrate AA Aluminum 6063 T6.

Introduction Under low temperature, the main mechanical properties of structural materials change according the drop of temperature.
The above measurements are all in material level, which can’t study the whole real structure behaviors in low temperature with measurement.

Huuki J et al. [2] discussed the influence of ultrasonic burnishing technique on the surface quality for three different materials, namely, aluminum, 34-CrNiMo6 tempering steel and S355J2 structural steel.
Compared with the initial turned surface roughness, the surface roughness values for these three materials decrease by an average of 88% and the finished surface measured an average value of 0.36 ± 0.16μm.

Additional process advancements included using pulsed direct current and low current densities, applying to a wider variety of materials, and utilizing reactive gases like CO2 and other gas combinations.
They came to the conclusion that these materials exhibit greater hardness, yield, and ultimate tensile strengths than base metals and that weld transverse tensile failures frequently occur away from the weld zone [15].
