Because the output of the flexible-rod is the input of whetstone-seat, the amplitude of longitudinal vibration of the whetstone-seat is affected not only by material properties and geometric parameters of the whetstone-seat but also by the output of the flexible-rod, namely, that is also related to the geometric parameters and material characteristics of the flexible-rod.

Experimental tests Material Tests were carried out on 100×150×2300 mm timber beam specimens made of Chinese fir, all from new wood.
In selecting samples special care was taken not to give preference to materials with natural grain or a pattern of knots conducive to bending.
