Modern materials technology often deals with heterogeneous polymer matrix systems.
The concept of heterogeneous materials offers the possibility to tailor material systems to a given application.
In order to establish models for effective properties of heterogeneous materials it is important to study the correlation between microstructure and distribution of ZnO in polymer and the optical, specially luminescence, and electrical properties.

Introduction
Aluminium matrix composites are among the most promising materials for wear and structural applications due to their low density, low cost and ease of fabrication of composites [1].
Machining of composite materials depends on the properties and relative content of the reinforcements and the matrix materials as well as on its response to the machining process.
