Experimental Study and Numerical Simulation on the Blistering Defect during Thixocasting.
Fig. 1 Schematic drawing of the computational part and corresponding monitored locations during simulation. 2.2 Numerical procedure In the present work, commercial CFD software FLUENT (version 16.2) has been used to develop a three-dimensional isothermal numerical model of semi-solid die filling process using Eulerian multiphase flow approach.
Fig. 3 shows the quantitative solid fraction along line (A-B) and simulation results for comparison.
Comparing with one-phase simulation, it is reasonable to conclude that multiphase simulation of semi-solid die casting has significant advantages in modelling gas entrapment.

However the cost of simulation can prohibit its use.
However the simulation costs are very similar.
It is clear that simulation is not the total answer.
Of over the 66 dies designed, recently by Casting Services, more than 23 had to be completed without the use of CFD simulation.
This was used to obtain the required length of each runners for multiple cavity runners and thereby reduce the number of simulation iterations and cost of simulation.

In this model, different shapes of parabola, distances of eccentricity, and depths of interference are considered, and then a series of numerical simulation are carried out.
Finally, according to the results of all the numerical simulations, a comprehensive correlation between the thermal constriction resistance and these parameters is obtained.
Figure 4 Single asperity contact model Numerical Model and Simulation The numerical simulation model is based mainly on the contact model described previously, but with a cylinder of radius b and length L which is six times bigger than b.
The numerical simulations were performed for different values ofβ0, h0 and r0.
A commercial CFD software FLUENT was used to numerically solve the model problems with all the boundaries mentioned previously.

The influence of cell shape, relative density and pore gases on the macroscopic honeycomb thermal properties is investigated by means of transient dynamic computational simulations.
The general purpose CFD package ANSYS CFX 11 was used for the time dependent thermal analysis.
According to these simulations the proper mesh size (l ≈ 0.09 mm) and time step (∆t = 0.1 s and ∆t = 0.01 s in case of considering the convection) were set.
For this purpose transient simulations considering heat conduction in the base material and pore gas have been performed.
The influence of the natural convection was analyzed with additional computational simulations.

The effects of bionic wavy surface on the aerodynamic and aeroacoustic performance of the cylinder are investigated by wind tunnel and numerical simulation.
We used the software ANSYS FLUENT to research the effect of the bionic wavy surface on the aerodynamic characteristics and aerodynamic noise of a cylinder by the Large Eddy Simulation(LES) and the Ffowcs Williams and Hawkings (FW-H) equation.
Fig.4 Boundary conditions 3 Comparison of simulation results 3.1 The SPL (sound pressure level) comparison of the cylinders The SPL comparison spectrum at the noise monitoring points of smooth cylinder and wavy surface cylinder is depicted in Fig.5.
According to the numerical simulation results, the total sound pressure level(SPL) of bionic wavy cylinder model is reduced by 6.7dB compared with smooth cylinder model at uniform velocity of 42m/s. 3.
According to the results of numerical simulation, bionic wavy structure can reduce the frequency of vortex shedding on cylindrical surface, so the fluctuating pressure should be lowered correspondingly, and thus the aerodynamic noise is lowered.
