It is shown that the flame retardant properties of MHSH better than that of Mg(OH)2 Table 3 Oxygen Index of the HDPE Samples with Different Additive Formula properties Properties Pure HDPE Adding shares of magnesium hydroxide in 100 Shares of HDPE Adding shares of MHSH in 100 Shares of HDPE 10 20 10 20 OI 17 18.3 19.6 22.8 24.2 The thermal decomposition properties of MHSH、Mg(OH)2 and Al(OH)3 are listed in table 4.It can be seen from the table 4, the temperature of beginning to release the water of MgSO4·5Mg(OH)2·2H2O was higher than that of Al(OH)3.There are two absorption temperature peaks: 190.86˚C and 406.79˚C respectively.Two peaks are corresponding to the thermal decomposition of regional 340~440˚C of the polyethylene, and the heat of absorption was higher than that of Mg(OH)2.Therefore, the MHSH overcame the faults that low decomposition temperature of Al(OH)3 and the high heat of Mg(OH)2, and the polyethylene oxygen index of adding MHSH was higher than the polyethylene oxygen
