Extraction and purification of the intracellular melanin The method of Ye et al [9] was used for fermentation of melanin from strain YM-292.
Elemental analysis of the melanin An elemental analyzer (Elementar Vario EL elemental analyzer, Elementaranalysen systeme, Hanau, Germany ) was used to determine the percentages of C, H, N, O and S in the melanin according to the national standard method of the People’s Republic of China (GB/T 19143-2003).
