Natural stones are raw materials and so the sector belongs to the mining industry, but they are produced to be used as building materials.
If LCA of raw materials is basic to almost all LCA studies of products and services, as they are always part, in lesser or bigger quantities, LCA studies for building materials are, nowadays, fundamental, as the buildings ecoefficiency is of paramount importance.
When characterizing the impacts by process, these were identified as supplying domestic inputs (materials, electricity and fuels), supply of imported inputs (materials), their domestic and international transport, and the specific processes of the industrial facilities (granite production).
