The standard use of autoclaves is not ideal for devices which have sensitive polymeric materials such as catheters and endoscopes, and therefore a motivation exists for research into new methods for the low temperature biological decontamination of sensitive material surfaces.
While it is well known that a plasma discharge in direct contact with a surface is also very effective for this purpose, this technique has the significant drawback of causing significant damage to the surface, especially if it consists of polymeric materials.
This damage can result in increased wettability of the material, increasing bacterial adherence.
The inactivation of bacteria was demonstrated using humid argon as working gas, which avoids the problems of ozone production and acidification associated with the use of air, which also poses problems for the aging of materials.

The value of “known” variation coefficient must not be less than 0.1, so that it was taken as vF = 0.1, unlike the actual variation coefficients with very small values of 0.014 and 0.017, which are probably caused by using the exactly same material with a very small variability of material properties.
But in the case of usage of different material, the properties variability can be larger.

Despite the benefits of MFCs, there are still practical challenges to consider, such as limited electricity output, current instability, high internal resistance, and expensive materials.
This study offers a way to construct MFC systems that use organic and inorganic materials to generate power.
