Conclusions The initial defect of drill string was simplified as circumferential semi-elliptical surface crack, and 30CrMo were chosen as material whose constitutional relation was fitted by experiment as Ramberg-Osgood equation.

Typical weld zone microstructures for the three materials under investigation are shown in Figure 3.
The data presented below shows that the hardness levels in the HAZ of PS samples differ significantly from that of both RHP and wrought materials.
