Abstract : Low cost composite materials are widely used in civil and structural engineering applications.
The composite research centre of the University of Southern Queensland developed projects for creating new materials suitable for civil and structural engineering applications.
This means that most civil engineering structures manufactured from thermosetting resin based composites are strain- rather than strength-limited.
These approaches are always cost-prohibitive for civil engineering composites.
This results in a gel time and cost compatible with civil engineering applications.

EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) materials have the features of super light, water resistance, anti-ageing, corrosion resistance and well supporting itself .They are now widely used in civil engineering because of their unique features for its unique characteristics.
This paper introduces the properties of EPS and the application of EPS in the road and bridge engineering.
Along with the increasing deteriorating of the environmental problems, to accelerate the research and application of the engineering technology of EPS materials would acquire abundant economic benefits in the engineering constructions.

Tunnel excavation is often done in underground engineering such as civil tunnel construction and mine excavation.
In underground engineering such as civil tunnel construction and mine excavation, rocks can be removed by employing different excavation techniques such as full-face drilling and blasting, TBM, mechanical excavation using road-headers, and staged excavation etc.
FLAC3D is used in analysis, testing, and design by geotechnical, civil, and mining engineers.
It is designed to accommodate any kind of geotechnical engineering project where continuum analysis is necessary.
