EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) materials have the features of super light, water resistance, anti-ageing, corrosion resistance and well supporting itself .They are now widely used in civil engineering because of their unique features for its unique characteristics.
This paper introduces the properties of EPS and the application of EPS in the road and bridge engineering.
Along with the increasing deteriorating of the environmental problems, to accelerate the research and application of the engineering technology of EPS materials would acquire abundant economic benefits in the engineering constructions.

Geosynthetics is developing rapidly in civil engineering, water project, transportation engineering and other fields in recent years due to their advantages of lightweight, good continuity, easy construction, excellent tensile, anti-ripping strength and good resistance to chemicals and microorganism.
At present, the geosynthetics has been widely used in the water, highway, railway, industrial and civil buildings, ports, mining, military and other engineering fields. [1] Geosynthetics’ development is closely related to the development of synthetic polymers, especially geotextiles.
The application of geosynthetics The application of geosynthetics is very extensive, it has a good performance in geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, hydraulic engineering and railway and highway traffic engineering, and so on.

Design of Broad-columns joint and analysis of stress for Top-down construction method of underground engineering XIANG Weiming1, a, ZHENG Xianchang1, b, SHEN Kaipeng1 and ZHOU Ming1 1School of Civil Engineering, Guangzhou University, Guangzhou 510006, PRC a huanjiankeji@21cn.com, b zhengxianchang@21cn.com Keywords: Civil air defense projects, Top-down construction method, joint of slab-column, Finite element analysis, Ring beam Abstract: According to the force problems caused by changing of structure forms of broad-column joints when using top-down construction method, this paper introduces the process of top-down construction method and design method of broad-column joint, using finite element software to analyze the stress of ring beam around broad-column joint, which is verified that adopting ring beam is safety and reliable, ring beam can transfer load and bear moment effectively, the strength of outsourcing column will be checked, finally it summarizes the characteristics
Top-down Construction Method of a Civil Air Defense Project Introduction of the project.
In this calculation, top loading would be undertaken by ring beam uniformly, it needs to select maximum load condition based on civil air defense of this project, namely uniform load 120 KPa.

Abstract : Low cost composite materials are widely used in civil and structural engineering applications.
The composite research centre of the University of Southern Queensland developed projects for creating new materials suitable for civil and structural engineering applications.
This means that most civil engineering structures manufactured from thermosetting resin based composites are strain- rather than strength-limited.
These approaches are always cost-prohibitive for civil engineering composites.
This results in a gel time and cost compatible with civil engineering applications.
