The sintered material was examined by
XRD and TEM.
Among the most widely studied systems, melt spun Al-Ln-Tm (Ln = lanthanides like Y, and Ce; Tm = transition metals like Ni, V, Cr) are known to develop nanocrystalline/glassy materials having very high strength [6-8].
However, mechanical alloying yields only powders that need to be consolidated into bulk materials before they can have useful mechanical properties.
