FOREWORD
The eighth conference of the European Ceramic Society (8th ECerS) took place
between June 29 - July 3, 2003 at the lstanbul Convention and Exhibition Centre, Istanbul,
Turkey.
The page limit was imposed to encourage the authors to present longer and more detailed version of their work in reputable learned journals in the field, especially the journal of the European Ceramic Society, with which ECerS is closely associated.
As usual, Engineering Ceramics and Composites, Electrocerarnics, Science and Technology of Ceramic Powders and Shaping, Sintering and Machining of Advanced Materials were the most popular sessions. ln contrast to previous ECerS conferences, Traditional Ceramics session was also received high attention with 115 contributions.
Our thanks go to the International Ceramic Federation for their special interest in this meeting, and to the local European National Ceramic Societies for their support and assistance during the preparations for the meeting and their assistance in publicising it as widely as possible.
Thanks also go to the staff of Department of Materials Science and Engineering of Anadolu University, especially to A.
