Selecting working fluids will consider these principles[8]:(1)working fluids should adapt the temperature range of heat pipe, and have suitable saturated steam pressure;(2)working fluids should be compatible to shell and wick materials, and have a good thermal stability;(3)working fluids should have comprehensive thermophysical properties i.e. high transmission coefficient;(4)nontoxicity, environmental protection and economics.
It has higher latent heat of vaporization and surface tension, and low in price and abundant in raw material.
At same time, matched with naphthalene shell material is cheap carbon-steel, so naphthalene is suitable to be working fluid of medium temperature heat pipe[9].
Matched with naphthalene shell material is austenitic stainless steel which is very expensive.
