Spalling in concrete is a complex phenomenon and is primarily dependant on material (e.g. strength, water/cement ratio, fibres content) and environmental (e.g. heating rate, load level, curing humidity).
Many material and environmental factors have been identified from experiments[3-5] as influencing spalling of concrete in fire.

This process can reduce the processing steps and loss of the materials.

Experimental Starting materials were TiO2 and Al powders both with commercial purity which were precisely weighed according to the following reaction and then mixed together and milled by a Fritch P5 type planetary ball mill with a constant ball to powder ratio of 20:1 and running speed of 300rpm, under pure argon atmosphere for 8 hours. 3TiO2 +7Al→3TiAl+2Al2O3 (1) 10% excess Al powder was used to ensure the existence of sufficient Al for the reaction and 5wt% of AlCl3 was added to the powder mixture to facilitate the milling process.
