These two materials are now dominating the field of TLD material research.
The major study in forensic sciences is to evolve and standardize methods to compare evidentiary materials with similar materials of known origin, which are invariably available only in minute quantities and are required to be analyzed non-destructively for evidence purposes.
While there is a need to date the older materials, it is also important to be able to date younger materials of few years old.

One of the key features found in metals that experienced cyclic plasticity is the formation of persistent slip bands (PSBs) a microstructure uniquely reflecting the materials’ cyclic deformation response.
The formation of PSBs would eventually lead to crack nucleation in materials with defect-free surface [6].

PE100 type materials are currently the recommended materials for the realization of natural gas distribution systems, having that important feature of inhibiting the development of pre-existing imperfections, thus preventing the formation and subsequent propagation of the crack.
