The technical committee was composed of researchers belonging to the traditional as well as advanced ceramics areas.
Beside the opening speech, four plenary talks and three panels (Advanced manufacture: industry 4.0, Evolution of the glass industry and products, publishing in the ceramics area) were part of the program.
Extra activities included a two-days seminar on "The science of the super heroes and their amazing materials", with the attractions for the engineering students: Engineering Captain America and Iron Man and Incredible Hulk and other Radiation Marvels.
As chair of the event and editor of this issue of Materials Science Forum, I am grateful to all attendees, committee members, sponsors, exhibitors, and specially to the authors of the manuscripts, for making the event a success.

PREFACE This volume contains some selected papers from the 2012 International Conference on Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (ICMEA2012) which is to be held in Guangzhou, China, during November 16-18, 2012, and is co-organized by Guangzhou University, The University of New South Wales, Zhejiang University, National Formosa University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Xi'an Jiaotong University.
The conference aims to provide a high-level international forum for engineers, scientists, and students to present their new advances and research results in the field of Manufacturing Engineering and Automation.
This volume covered all aspects of manufacturing engineering and automation, particularly of modern design theory and technology, advanced manufacturing technologies, modeling, analysis and simulation of manufacturing processes, automation and control, material science and technology, and dynamics of mechanisms and systems.
The editors hope that this volume will provide the reader a broad overview of the latest advances in the field of manufacturing engineering and automation, and that it will be a valuable reference source for further research.

This society is an established forum for distinguished material scientists, bioengineers, molecular and cellular biologists, bone biologists, orthopedic surgeons, clinicians and manufacturers, to gather together and discuss the latest achievements in the field of Bioceramic materials.
Ceramic materials can also be used in tissue engineering in association to growth factors and cells.
We hope that in this book the reader will find inspiration to further advance hi s research results with a beneficial effect on the quality of life of the patients.

Fig. 2 shows the engineering stress – engineering strain curves of Ti-xCr-6Sn-40Zr(x=0~3) alloys, Ti-xNb-6Sn-45Zr(x=0~16) alloys and Ti-xFe-6Sn-45Zr(x=0~2) alloys.
Fig. 4 shows the engineering stress – strain curves by cyclic loading-unloading deformation of the Ti-2Cr-6Sn-40Zr alloy, Ti-10Nb-6Sn-45Zr alloy and Ti-1Fe-6Sn-45Zr alloy.
