Abstract:

In this paper a method of ultrasonic elliptical vibration cutting has been applied to precision boring of micro hole due to its superior performances such as low cutting force, high quality surface finish and long tool life. A transducer with the longitudinal excitation is carried out to machining(boring) micro hole of 1Cr18Ni9Ti workpiece. The cutting force and surface quality are studied in detail. The workpiece with surface roughness of Rz 0.4μm is achieved. The results showed that the ultrasonic elliptical vibration transducer can be applied rationally in micro hole precision boring.

[1] While f is feed rate,R is the tool nose radius. But when the R and cutting depth is larger than f(3.5μm/r),the boring tool cutting edge becomes more "larger",and a lower roughness can be achieved. Fig11 and fig13 illustrate that with elliptical ultrasonic the cutting can avoid build up edge and irregular tear of the metal. Then the elliptical ultrasonic boring surface has a higher quality. Conclusions Carbide micro turning tools of less than 0.3mm diameter were used during the micro hole boring. The following results were obtained. 1.Elliptical ultrasonic boring is used for micro hole manufacturing for the first time. 2.Elliptical ultrasonic boring has a smaller cutting force slope compering to non-ultrasonic boring. And low amplitude elliptical ultrasonic is suitable in micro hole boring process. 3.Elliptical ultrasonic boring has a brighter surface quality and less burr. But the scratch and chamfer effects are need to be control. The technology can be widely used in micro nozzle fabrication. And a more practical technology is feasible. References
