Relocation Pattern for Minority Villages Stricken by Wenchuan Earthquake

Abstract:

After the Wenchuan earthquake, a number of minority villages face many difficulties in relocation due to their poor geographical location, backward economic development and poor inhabited environment. In this paper, successful pattern for relocation of minority villages are researched and explored through analysis, generalization and summation with the post-disaster relocation of Yangliu Village in Taiping Township of Mao County as an example, in order to provide reference for the reconstruction of other minority villages stricken by the great disaster.

[2] In the relocation planning, design of improved water supply, toilets and pens has been adopted in accordance with the requirements of new countryside construction, as well as the design of improved roads of the whole village, laying of underground pipe culverts to bury electric wires, telephone lines and sewer pipes, arrangement of a simple sewage treatment system, and a small number of road lamps to provide light for the village at night.

[3] A community service center and an assembly square are planned to serve the villagers and provide them and visitors with an area for assembly and other activities, such as dancing around firewood so as to restore traditional assembly activities of the villagers.

[4] To arrange a research institute for the culture of Qiang nationality in the village and invite relevant scholars to stay in the village for a long term to collect cultural features and sort, research and conserve Qiang culture. Music, painting and architectural creators are also welcomed to collect interesting information in the village.

[5] High-end tourism of in-depth experience of Qiang culture may be developed and targeted at high-end visitors who are really interested in Qiang culture and will continually come here in a long term, in order to increase the income of villagers.
