Application Potential of Solar-Shading in Tropical Island Cities

Article Preview

Abstract:

The electricity demands of the buildings in tropical island cities for cooling present an increasing trend with the augment of the ratio of widow to wall and improvement in the quality of life. The shortage of shading is considered to be one primary reason for the higher energy consumption in buildings. This paper investigated the application potential of shading in several cities of Hainan province using DOE-2 software. It is found that the radiation heat gains of the west window may be slightly higher than other orientations, while the energy conserved by shading will be twice of others. Meanwhile, flexible shading is suggested for cities where sun-shine is favorable in the winter.
