Comparative Analysis of the Quality of Parts Made by an Aluminum Alloy Processed by Unconventional Cutting Methods
Abstract:
The emergence of new materials that cannot be processed by conventional methods (milling, turning and drilling) led to the unconventional processing technologies. In case of unconventional methods, the addition processing material is removed as microparticles, as results of the interaction between the workpiece and an erosive agent. Cutting of plates is a difficult and time consuming task, especially when the job calls for a tight tolerance or an unusual shape. The paper has as main objective to realize a comparative analysis of the surface quality and dimensional accuracy of worpieces made by an aluminum alloy, Al 6061 T651, processed by three different cutting methods: plasma, laser and abrasive water jet. Thus experimental investigation and comparative analysis of the results were performed in terms of roughness, macrostructure, hardness and dimensional accuracy of the processed workpiece.
