A Heuristic Approach to Capacity Assignment in Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Production Line

Article Preview

Abstract:

The objective of this paper is to develop an algorithm to design an assignment of production in the solid dosage form manufacturing cell. Typically, production requirement of each quarter will be obtained through forecasting from sale department. Then, the required production will be assigned among the production lines using the developed heuristic algorithm. The proposed assignment criteria include line efficiency and work load balance. In addition, the bottleneck of each production line will also be identified and utilized as the capacity constraint.
