Comparative In Vitro Study on MgCa Si MgCaSi Alloys, as Biodegradable Implants

Article Preview

Abstract:

This paper represents a comparative study of several biodegradable alloys based on Mg, and respectively Mg-Ca and Mg-Ca-Si. The way these alloys were obtained and their comparative analysis are presented by means of results to the cytotoxicity tests, considering the biocompatibility and the degree of biodegradation of the studied alloys. Their production was undertaken in extreme lab conditions, in controlled atmosphere, in order to obtain precise compositions. Thus, we produced alloys from the Mg-Ca system, with the following Ca concentrations: 0.82%Ca, 0.84%Ca, 0.85%Ca, and for the Mg-Si-Ca system, we produced the alloy with Ca and Si in 0.4% concentration. For the cytotoxicity tests, undertaken within the Cellular Biology laboratory of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Gr. T. Popa Iasi, we used a standard DMEM (Dulbeko Modified Eagle Medium) culture environment with 10% addition of fetal bovine serum and 4.5g/l glucose.
