Tensile Properties of Durian Seed Starch Filled Low Density Polyethylene Composites: Effects of Chemical Surface Modification by Acetic Acid
Abstract:
Durian seed starch (DSS) filled low density polyethylene (LDPE) composites have been prepared by internal mixer. Acetic acid was used as a chemical modifier. The effects of modified DSS content on the composites were evaluated by tensile property measurements. The incorporation of reduced tensile strength and elongation at break (EB) but with an increase in Young’s modulus of the composites. However, on addition of acid-acetic-modified DSS to the PE, tensile properties were found to improve due to enhanced interfacial adhesion between DSS and PE.
