Finite Element Analysis of Multispeed Noncircular Gears

Article Preview

Abstract:

A multispeed gear train is designed based on a prescribed gears transmission ratio variation, specific to an industrial application that requires two uniform rotational motions, with different speeds, during the functioning cycle. The transitions between the uniform motions occur at continuously variable speeds, as a consequence of the trigonometric and power functions that are chosen to describe the transmission ratio variation. Based on the predefined kinematics, the multispeed gears pitch curves are modelled, and the teeth generation is completed by combining analytical and computerized graphics methods. The finite element analysis is applied to the gears solid models in order to investigate the influence of the transmission ratio defining parameters on the gear tooth bending state, as criteria in the further optimisation of the multispeed gears design.
