Static Analysis of Friction Contact Effect on Valley Cable Force

Article Preview

Abstract:

In order to study the friction contact effect between cable and membrane in cable-membrane structures, a tensioned cable-membrane FE model which has a stable cable (valley cable) is created with FEA software ANSYS. The friction contact between the valley cable and membrane surface is simulated by contact elements in ANSYS, and the effect of friction contact surface is considered by the introduction of friction coefficients. Three different design valley cable forces (15kN, 20kN and 25kN) are considered in form-finding and static analysis, and valley cable force losses are analyzed. Results show that valley cable force loss due to friction contact should be considered obviously when design valley cable force is relatively small.
