Within the vertical section, ROP of the conventional air hammer in gas drilling is several times or even several dozen times than that of underbalanced drilling. Gas screw with conventional air hammer has not been successful in direction gas well, which greatly limits field of application of air hammer, so this paper carries out development of the air hammer with self-propelled round and analyzes the principle of work of air hammer with self-propelled round bit, the contact analysis and design of spiral rod, and spiral nut which are the key components.
